Speech Pathology

As a Speech Pathologist, our role is to help people to communicate in a way that is meaningful for them, as well as to provide support in the management of swallowing disorders and feeding difficulties. Communication can look different for everyone, and as Speech Pathologists we help empower people to become the best communicators they can be.
AREAS OF SUPPORT SPEECH PATHOLOGISTS CAN ASSIST WITH
  • Attainment of early language developmental skills
  • Prescription and implementation of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (low and high technology systems), including PODD books, eye gaze device, visual schedules, and Proloquo2go.
  • Functional and family-centred intervention for fussy eaters utilising the principles of the SOS feeding approach.
  • Support for infant feeding difficulties, including bottle feeding and transitioning to solids or texture foods.
  • Management of dysphagia, oral motor and swallowing disorders, through individualised mealtime plans, swallowing therapy and carer education.
  • Building language skills to meet functional communication goals (including expanding vocabulary, improving sentence structures, following directions and understanding/answering questions).
  • Achieving clear speech through developing speech sounds and eliminating sound errors.
  • Functional support to achieve social communication goals in everyday contexts.
  • Managing speech fluency to achieve stutter free speech using BERL strategies.
