Occupational Therapist

Emma is a compassionate, driven and fun OT. Emma’s role as an OT is vast and she is able to tackle all areas with eagerness, patience and creativity to help support her clients and their families. Emma has an eye for detail and makes sure she provides high quality services to achieve functional and meaningful goals with her clients.

Emma is bright and optimistic and strives to engage in professional opportunities to further her experience in a range of OT domains to provide well-rounded care for clients. Emma supports families through developing rapport and building strong therapeutic relationships which includes empowering families to feel capable to facilitate meaningful change. Emma follows a family-centered and evidence-based approach to incorporate targeted intervention to work with the client and family to achieve goals.

Emma is sporty and adventurous and enjoys hikes and trying new things. Emma is an appreciated member of the Leaps and Bounds Team and aims to support each of her clients to the best of her ability.

Kath

Client Services Assistant

Kath is our Client Services Assistant joining our admin team to provide support across all areas from client relations/reception to supporting the team with everyday logistics. Kath comes from a dental and retail background and believes patient care and customer service are an important part of a strong and successful practice. She is friendly and caring and is here to help where she can.

Kath enjoys pilates, walking and the occasional bike ride. She is a HUGE Brisbane Broncos supporter and enjoys watching both the NRL and AFL. Kath is a true Queenslander and you will catch her proudly wearing her Maroon at State of Origin time. Kath’s favourite place to visit is Hawaii and she has been able to enjoy a few trips there with her hubby.

Sophie

Allied Health Assistant

Sophie has joined our team as an allied health assistant. She is vivacious young lady who loves to interact with new people which is why she chose to study Occupational Therapy at Sunshine Coast University. Sophie is looking forward to applying the information she is learning at university directly into her role at Leaps and Bounds. She loves to keep busy so if you see her buzzing around the practice be sure to say Hi!

Outside of work and uni, Sophie is a country music lover, who enjoys camping and working with cattle.

As a Speech Pathologist, our role is to help people to communicate in a way that is meaningful for them, as well as to provide support in the management of swallowing disorders and feeding difficulties. Communication can look different for everyone, and as Speech Pathologists we help empower people to become the best communicators they can be.

Attainment of early language developmental skills
Prescription and implementation of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (low and high technology systems), including PODD books, eye gaze device, visual schedules, and Proloquo2go.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

As Occupational Therapists, our role is to work with you to achieve your goals and support you to build your skills to participate in all activities in your day. To us the word ‘occupation’ doesn’t just mean your job, but all the tasks that you need to do, like to do, or want to do. Stephanie DiMichele

Physio

Steph is paving the way for the next generation of physiotherapists, with her strong advocacy for access, inclusion and participation for all young people with a disability. Steph is fiercely determined and willing to do whatever it takes to help her clients achieve their goals. Steph adopts a family centred, evidence-based and play-based approach to make her therapy sessions fun, and help her clients reach their goals.

Steph herself has lived experience of disability and accessing allied health services, which she draws upon to ensure her clients enjoy therapy and see meaning in it. Steph, with the support of her family has overcome barriers, to become the phenomenal physiotherapist she is today. She is here to be your cheerleader and champion in what ever life throws at you, just as her therapists were there for her.

Steph has a passion for working with children. In particular, children with neurological conditions. She aspires to complete the Masters of Advanced Paediatric Physiotherapy Practice in the coming years.

Steph enjoys catching up with friends for brunch and baking delicious brownies for the team!

Lucy Roper

Allied Health Assistant (SLP)

Lucy is the incredible Speech Pathology Allied Health Assistant. She is enthusiastic, considered and extremely approachable. When therapists need a second set of hands, Lucy is one of the go to women. She is playful, energetic and creative in how she engages with all clients. Lucy is always seeking out ways to improve what she does, and is eager to learn and grow.

Lucy is studying a Bachelor of Speech Pathology and utilises these skills in her current role. She is in her third year of study and will make an amazing Speech Pathologist in the future.

Lucy first got into studying speech pathology because of her love for language and working with people – it was the perfect combination! She is interested in how neurodivergence impacts communication and finding functional strategies to make communication easier for individuals.

When she isn’t working or studying, she enjoys camping, hiking, and heading out to the coast.

Aaron Take

Allied Health Assistant (Physio)

Aaron is our Physiotherapy Allied Health Assistant; his can-do attitude and enthusiasm sure makes him a valued member of the team. Aaron’s patience and attention to detail lends well to his roles around the clinic. He completes his duties efficiently and to the highest possible standards.

With his benevolent and gentle approach to care – you’ll find him assisting the clinicians during their sessions and supporting therapy programs for their clients.

Aaron has a passion for understanding the intricacies of movements to enable people to thrive across their lifetime. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and is keen to utilise his knowledge and experiences in his role.

Chris Villis

Receptionist

Chris is our receptionist who welcomes you with a warm and friendly smile when you arrive at our clinic. She has a genuine caring nature and loves to help people, so she is perfect for handling all our client matters regarding new enquiries, appointments, and providing information on our services. Chris strives to ensure that you receive the best possible customer service and support, ensuring that your experience with us is a positive and enjoyable one.

We are lucky to have Chris on our team with her extensive admin knowledge acquired through her experience working within different industries such as telecommunications, child safety, natural therapies, and allied health. Since 2012, her most enjoyable and rewarding role has been working within different local paediatric allied health practices supporting multi-disciplinary teams and their clients and families.

Catching up with friends, going to live shows/musicals, visiting local markets, camping, bushwalking, and playing with her two fur babies, Cooper (Cavalier x) and Milly (Cavoodle) are a few of her favourite things.

Shanae McLean

Allied Health Assistant (OT)

Shanae is the backbone of the Leaps and Bounds Team! Shanae’s role as an allied health assistant is broad and can include organisation/development of resources as well and engaging in therapy programs with clients themselves. Shanae has a strong sense of empathy and demonstrates genuine care and support towards both clients and therapists.

Shanae is responsive to both therapist and client needs and is an incredible multi-tasker. Shanae is a dependable team member and always completes tasks with a smile on her face. You may find Shanae running around the office whilst looking incredibly stylish!

Shanae is studying a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and utilises these skills in her current role. The team is excited to see Shanae become a kind and supportive occupational therapist who will be a facilitator of great change alongside her clients.

Alex Dougan

Occupational Therapist

Alex is an ambitious, adapting, and awe-inspiring OT and person. Alex is always everyone’s biggest supporter, offering an ear to her clients, families and to her colleagues.

Alex’s commitment to her clients and their families goes above and beyond, and this is seen through her ability to build and achieve functional and meaningful goals with her clients. Alex works extremely hard behind the scenes and can often be found typing busily at her desk. Alex is an enthusiastic learner and is a powerhouse in the report writing world. Alex loves learning about families and what is meaningful to them to inform goals and intervention.

Alex enjoys her morning walks and supporting her coffee habit. Alex is a strong advocator for the needs of her clients and is bursting with creativity with each therapy session. She is an amazing part of the Leaps and Bounds team!

Lucy Paulus

Occupational Therapist

Lucy’s passion and genuine care for everyone that she comes across is evident in her bright personality and delightful smile. Lucy places emphasis on building relationships with families and walks alongside them through their journey. Lucy is a phenomenal example of occupational therapy in practice, as she ensures her approaches are backed up with evidence and are based on family priorities.

Lucy collaborates with families to identify goal areas that are functional and are meaningful to the family themselves. Lucy is a keen learner and is often engaging in professional opportunities to further her skills and understanding. Lucy meets families where they are at and is a fierce advocate for her clients. Lucy also identifies the importance of empowering families to be the facilitators of their own change. Basically, Lucy is the cheerleader that everyone needs!

Lucy is a country gal at heart and brings a well-rounded perspective to all situations. Lucy is a horse lover, and she is in for the ride with all of her families!

Sarah Evans

Speech Pathologist

Sarah is our bright, fun and bubbly Speechie! Sarah is a NDIS registered positive behaviour support practitioner. Her dual skill set gives her a holistic view of her clients and makes her a master investigator.

She is always willing to dive in, is thoughtful, intentional, and considerate in her clinical practice, and upholds strong therapeutic principles of evidence-based, functional and multidisciplinary intervention that is both fun and engaging.

In particular, Sarah is passionate about supporting clients with behaviours of concern, mealtimes, feeding and swallowing, Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Motor Speech Disorders (Including Childhood Apraxia of Speech). Sarah is a powerhouse and will advocate endlessly for the needs of her clients.

Sarah enjoys getting out into the community with her clients to help them achieve their goals, you may catch Sarah with her clients at the pool or down at the local coffee shop.

On the weekends you’ll catch Sarah taking her pups to the beach, snuggling up to her turtle or going off the grid for 4×4 adventures to find Robert Irwin.

Without a doubt, she brings a smile to our faces every day and we’re so very thankful that she is a part of our team.

Sequoyah Ryder

Occupational Therapist and Lead Clinician

She’s the best in the biz and a generalist when it comes to paediatric, adolescent and adult client care in Occupational Therapy.

With immense experience in the disability sector, particularly with supporting families and individuals with complex presentations, behaviours and care needs, Sequoyah has established an astounding knowledge base and exceptional skill set as an OT in this field.

Sequoyah’s training and fields of experience include activities of daily living (toileting, showering, mealtimes, dressing, grooming, sleeping, social and play skills), prescription of specialised and complex equipment and home modifications, sensory processing and regulation, emotional regulation, school engagement, positive behaviour support, manual handling and mental health. Sequoyah is particularly interested and passionate about supporting the support team (family, school staff, support workers, other professionals) by providing coaching, reflection sessions and using a strength-based approach to finding opportunities for positive change.

Prior to joining the Leaps and Bounds team, Sequoyah worked for Disability Services Queensland in Caboolture, as well as the NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention Partner, BUSHkids, where she helped to develop families’ NDIS plans.

She is diligent and thorough, fun and open-minded, intelligent as can be, and guided by strong clinical principles, with a family-centred and relationship-based approach. When Sequoyah is not supporting families at work, you will find her on her motorbike riding through the bush.

Erin Hawkins

Speech Pathologist

Speechie Erin is the kind of person that makes you instantly feel at ease. Whether you are a child, adult, client, guardian, peer, or professional, Erin is someone you will be excited to work with.

Genuine, supportive, well-researched and extremely committed, Erin is a clinician and team member that brings both a bubbly energy and peaceful calm to the way she works.

Prior to joining the Leaps and Bounds team, Erin worked with the BUSHkids NDIS ECEI (Early Childhood Early Intervention) team, supporting children and their families through early intervention supports, including assisting them to gain access to the NDIS and developing, implementing, and monitoring individualised NDIS plans.

With a special interest in AAC (early communicators/complex communication needs), speech sound disorders, mealtimes and swallowing (with training in Sensory Oral Sequencing- SOS Feeding), Erin has a diverse caseload with clients of all ages, however, thrives working in the early years of a child’s development.

Using family-centred, holistic, and strength-based practices, Erin takes the time to listen and build functional goals with families that are meaningful and build capacity within their day-to-day life. Erin is passionate about learning and ensuring she is providing therapy and intervention that aligns with families’ priorities and the most up to date evidence.

She’s a whizz-bang therapist and an absolute treasure to the Leaps and Bounds Team.

Georgie Withers

Speech Pathologist

Boy oh boy, is Georgie a Speechie gem.

Through her previous positions as a Speech Pathologist with the QLD Health Child Development Service, Disability Services Queensland in Caboolture and the NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention service, Georgie has experience supporting people of all ages, with a specialty in early childhood intervention.

In particular, Georgie thrives working with young people and their families across the areas of: early language and speech sound development; literacy (with training in the Sounds Write method); feeding and mealtimes; as well as prescribing and utilising AAC (Augmentative and Alternative) communication methods.

She is creative (planning and making the most amazing therapy sessions), gentle, extremely considerate, and compassionate. Georgie cares for her families and meets them where they are at and is responsive to family priorities.

As a clinician, Georgie loves working with families to develop personalised goals and interventions that make a functional positive impact in their lives.

Marley Mabb

Director and Speech Pathologist

Meet our co-owner, co-founder and lead Speechie Marley.

She is warm, down to earth, and creative as can be (we have seen everything from kiddie pools, leaf blowers, boxing sets and nail polish booths heading into her therapy room). She knows her AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) inside out and has comprehensive experience with all things dysphasia (swallowing) and paediatric feeding related.

Marley’s sweet spot is clients with complex presentations, who she can work with to develop goals and provide functional strategies targeting the areas that matter most to the person and their family, so they can be more independent to function in daily life.

She is passionate about adapting and delivering a service that is functional, evidence-based, and individualised for each client. Marley is dedicated to her families and will go the extra mile to support them to reach their goals.

Marley has spent a large portion of her career working with the disability community in Moreton Bay, developing an extensive network and experience in the region. In recent years, Marley has also worked internationally, where she was a part of a community team for adolescents and adults with learning disabilities in the United Kingdom.

Ellen Winn

Director and Physiotherapist

She’s our physiotherapist wonder-woman, Co-Owner and Co-Founder, Ellen.

One of the strongest advocates you will ever meet for the clients in her care, Ellen is a deeply knowledgeable, immensely experienced, and immeasurably committed physiotherapist.

With a passion for clients who have complex presentations, Ellen is a dynamo with incomparable skills in physiotherapy practice. In particular, she specialises in paediatrics, with a Masters degree in Advanced Clinical Paediatric Physiotherapy Practice.

Ellen is a strong proponent of goal-directed, family-centred therapy, with an emphasis on transferring functional strategies across all the environments the person with a disability accesses to achieve movement outcomes. We have seen her venture everywhere from skate parks to the beach, off-road bike trails, and gaming arcades to apply movement strategies with her clients.

Previously working for the Department of Education, including the Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP) and local special schools, as well as the QLD Government Disability Services in Caboolture, Ellen has a wealth of experience supporting people across their lifespan in the Caboolture region.

Ellen is infinitely caring, wholeheartedly supportive, stands up for what she believes in, and never says no to playing a bit of handball in the car park and a good country playlist on Spotify.

Tiarne Hayes

Accounts Manager

Tiarne is an accounts whiz!

An amazing collaborator and team member, Tiarne handles everything from client invoicing to service agreements and all other facets of day-to-day finance and client accounts.

Tiarne has a great range of knowledge from her previous experiences and has 10 years of experience in the area of accounts. Tiarne is able to use her wealth of knowledge and put it into practice and ensure the Leaps and Bounds account processes are as smooth as possible. Tiarne is your go-to-gal for any questions about invoices or how your therapy sessions are paid for as a self, plan or agency managed NDIS participant.

Tiarne enjoys all things outdoors, camping, beach drives and 4WD. She also enjoys all genres of music and quite often you will see her with one ear pod in listening to some of her favourite tracks. She also loves unique animals/pets and has a beautiful Sphynx at home.

Jess Whyburn

Client Services Manager

What an absolute delight our Jess is!
As the main point of contact for families, Jess handles client matters via our phone, email, and front office, liaising on a daily basis with regards to appointments, services, questions, and new client enquiries.

She is kind-hearted, supports our whole team with all matters big and small, and brings with her an immense wealth of knowledge in administrative processes following a career in disability and community health supports. In particular, Jess has worked in the aged care and disability sector, as well as government services.

She has the best bubbly disposition and a beautiful way of engaging with people that brings to life person-centred care, communicating and building rapport with them in a unique way considerate of their interests and communication style/method. We are so very lucky to have her with us!

Chloe Mabb

Project Manager

The bright, bubbly and ever-warm Chloe!

Chloe joined our team soon after opening and works as our organisation’s Project Manager.

She is our main gal when it comes to community engagement, liaising and connecting with other stakeholders, community-based supports, and organisations. Within this role, she helps to support our clients and their families link in with community supports that can contribute to holistic, wrap-around, and family-centred care.

Chloe thrives with a good research project at hand, and loves getting to dig into the long-term research projects and proposals for Leaps and Bounds as part of her role.

Day-to-day, Chloe supports our allied health team with ongoing therapeutic scheduling and applications for community-based access. She is the creative woman and driving force behind the scenes preparing a number of our annual events, processes and social media pages.

Currently undertaking her Master’s in Social Work, Chloe is immensely passionate about upholding holistic support for members of the disability community and their families. Chloe gets to know each client and staff member inside and out, ensuring they feel special whenever they see her.

Rhiannon Shepherd

Administration Assistant

It is our delight and absolute pleasure to introduce you to Rhiannon!

Rhiannon is our clever, amazingly efficient, and dedicated administration assistant.

A superstar who thinks on her feet and is always happy to help. Since graduating high school and starting her traineeship with Leaps and Bounds Disability Services, Rhiannon has supported our clinic in many ways, including paperwork maintenance, greeting clients, infection control, resource preparation, managing our many many visuals, and keeping the clinic equipment stocked and ready to go.

Rhiannon loves getting to meet families as they come into the clinic, so be sure to say hello if you see her around!

LAUREN

Physiotherapist

Lauren is our hydrotherapy dynamo and amazing physiotherapist, who has spent her career working in education, disability and hydrotherapy practice, developing a phenomenal set of skills we are so excited to have on the team!

Lauren has worked both in Moreton Bay, at local special schools, state schools and the Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP), as well as more recently in Biloela, Central Queensland, where she established her own hydrotherapy practice prior to moving back to the South-east.

Lauren is passionate about incorporating functional movement into her client’s everyday lives, to work towards family-centred goals, both on land and in the water.

She thrives working with clients of any age, has a beautiful way of engaging with people, and is so incredibly thoughtful both in her clinical practice and care of others.

MIKAELA

Occupational Therapist

She’s our OT pocket rocket, with the kindest of hearts and most considerate, thoughtful approach to everything she does.

Mikaela has previously worked for the Queensland Department of Education across numerous settings, including the Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP), developing a passion for working with children of differing strengths and abilities. She is our number one woman for all things school readiness, including pre-writing, sensory processing difficulties, and fine motor skills.

Mikaela also has experience in Assistive Technology and equipment applications, for items such as strollers and swings, as well as in supporting individuals with Activities of Daily Living including toileting and dressing.

With a strong family-centred, goal-based approach to therapy, Mikaela ensures strategies are functional and meaningful for the individual in their day-to-day life.

IZZY

Administration Officer

It’s Izzy! Our caring, kind-hearted, stellar Administration Assistant.

Izzy supports our team through resource development and management; file maintenance; clinic operations; as well as client correspondence.

In particular, Izzy works across the Leaps and Bounds reception, as well as behind the scenes assisting our allied health team.

Mature beyond her years, Izzy is methodical, thoughtful, helps anyone and everyone, and has the most approachable way about her.

Izzy hopes to develop a career in the disability sector, undertaking a traineeship through Leaps and Bounds.

SARAH M

Speech Pathologist

Sarah is our Key Word Sign and AAC dream gal. She has a strong passion for complex presentations and has experience in all areas of low and high tech AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), covering everything from switches, to PECS systems, PODD books and eye-gaze devices.

She’s friendly-as-can-be, welcoming, and can strike up a conversation with anyone.

Sarah has a wide range of experience working alongside the disability community, including as a disability support worker, developing a comprehensive understanding of the disability landscape.

Sarah has a certification in AUSLAN, Sounds Write as well as SOS (Sensory Oral Sequencing) Feeding, with a keen interest in the areas of swallowing and mealtime management, as well as language development.

Deeply committed and wholeheartedly caring, it’s an absolute delight getting to see the rapport and therapeutic relationship Sarah builds with each of her clients.

JULIE

Accounts Manager

Julie is our accounts super woman.

A diligent dynamo, Julie handles everything from client invoicing, to service agreements and all other facets of day-to-day finance and client accounts.

Returning to Moreton Bay from the tropical north, where she worked for 9 years at Queensland Health in the hospital system, Julie brings with her an immense wealth of knowledge when it comes to health administration practices and processes. If you have a question about your invoices or how your therapy sessions are paid for as a self, plan, or agency managed NDIS participant, Julie is your go-to woman.

Julie is as thorough as can be, knows the details of each client’s account inside out, and has a heart of absolute gold. When it’s time to let loose, you will find her at a live music venue with a spunky hair do and wearing her best boots.

NINA

Speech Pathologist

She’s our happy, smiley ball of sunshine and go-to gal for all things language, literacy, fluency (stuttering) and voice, having undertaken clinical development in these areas.

Nina thrives working with adolescent and adult aged clients, enjoying the chance to build their confidence by supporting them to achieve functional goals with goal and evidence-based practice.
